Happy New Year's -- Let's Party!
December is here, and that means we will soon be welcoming a new year. Today the Riverscape blog has some ideas about ways to ring in 2017, so whether you’re planning on a quiet evening in your apartment or if you’re heading out on the town in Odenton (or further afield in Maryland), these ideas can jump-start your planning.
Party On, Dude
“Noon Year’s Eve” parties are a fun option if you are celebrating with the young or the young-at-heart. Plan the festivities for a lunchtime countdown, complete with party hats, balloons, and confetti. Incorporate some noisemakers into the fun from a place like Oriental Trading, or make your own as part of the party fun. The kids will feel included in the New Year’s celebration, and you can head out later for an evening of adult entertainment without feeling guilty about not including them.
Time capsules are a fun way to recap the year and have something fun to look forward to in the new year (or, you can wait to open it in five, ten, or twenty years). Include a list of things that happened this year, prices, hit movies, and national events. Make some predictions for the upcoming years, too; it will be fun to see if any come true.
Be sure to include a countdown for your celebration and prepare your toasting beverage so it’s ready to go as midnight approaches. This balloon pop countdown is a great way to involve everyone in the countdown all evening.
Staying Safe if You’re Out and About the Town
We turned to Yelp to help us determine some of the best places to go to celebrate. Here is the site’s top ten places to visit when it comes to nightlife in Odenton. Check out the reviews. If you opt to be out and about in Odenton or further afield to celebrate, take some precautions. If you plan on drinking, to assure your safety and the safety of others, follow these tips:
— Attend an event that includes accommodations for the night so you won’t need to worry about driving home.
— If you are headed home but have been drinking, plan on having a designated driver.
— Stay engaged in activities and eat plenty of food to prevent drinking on an empty stomach. If you are hosting a party, offer non-alcoholic beverages or mocktails for designated drivers and others who are not drinking.
However you celebrate, staying in or heading out for the evening, we want to wish you a happy New Year!
